Off The Scales Freedom

"The Universe is saying, allow me to flow through you unrestricted and you will see the greatest magic you have ever seen." - Klaus Joehle

Hi Everyone, -  welcome to my latest blog!

My hope is that you will enjoy this blog post and take something from it. This time around I want to talk about what a person achieves with 'Hypnosis' at a higher level. At this point I have covered most of the specifics regarding hypnosis and what it can do, meaning in terms of stop smoking, weight control, reduce stress and anxiety, eliminate fears and so on. I have said more or less all I need to say on these topics and all are available in previous blog posts. The last couple of blog posts though I have been naturally traveling/going towards how everything is 'energy' and 'frequencies' and getting into the nature of the reality we live in. But I also like to keep it simple and today's blog is no different.

Hypnosis is all about bringing people up one scale and down another. Metaphorically speaking, life can be measured on two scales - one being the scale of 'Challenges' and the other being the scale of 'Resourcefulness'. Lets say both of these scales can be measured from 1 up to 10. Let's begin with 'The scale of 'Challenges' (or 'Perceived Problems')'. On this scale, 10 is the hardest challenge you can imagine, and 1 is the easiest.  Then you have all the variations in between. However an important word here is 'perceived', because depending on the person the exact same challenge can be 'perceived as 'easy' or 'hard'. This is one of the presuppositions of NLP - 'The map is not the territory'. For example when it comes to something like 'stopping smoking', unfortunately most people view that challenge as the hardest thing they could ever attempt. But is it? Well.. if you think something is going to be hard, it probably will be; in that you are actually manifesting your own reality. If a smoker sets out with the 'preconceived belief' that it's going to be 'hard' (10 on the challenge scale), well then guess what?.. It will be! Society is constantly bombarding smokers with suggestions that it is the hardest thing in the world to do and offers all kind of substitutes such a e-cigarettes, nicotine patches, etc. The subliminal message is that 'you do not have the ability within yourself to do this'. Hypnosis shows people that this is untrue; that of course, doing things the same way, you will get the same results and as the old saying goes 'everything will seem difficult until you know how to do it. Then it is easy.' Hypnosis gives that key.

Even if a person comes into my office with a perceived 'challenge', high up on the hard end of that 'Challenge scale'; after just one hypnotic session they usually leave the session, with that challenge well down that scale. This is because their preconceived beliefs are broken down and also, that their 'belief' in themselves to meet the challenge has gone right up. Free from limitations placed on them by a sick society. In fact, most people would be very surprised to know that, what they can achieve is actually far greater than they would ever have initially thought. Which brings me to the second scale... the 'Scale of Resourcefulness'.

The 'Scale of Resourcefulness' is where at 10 a person feels super confident and strong within themselves, believing in themselves 100% and really having a 'can do' attitude. Whereas 1 on the scale is where a person is deflated and feeling so lousy, that it's hard to get out of bed in the morning. Again, you have all variations in between. When a client comes into my office, I usually have a fair idea where they are on that scale just by examining their body language and communication skills. Slumped shoulders and sad faces are usually a give away! People lower down the Resourcefulness scale will usually provide 101 good reasons why they 'can't do it'. Hypnosis brings a person up that scale, by providing them with the inner belief, the motivation and most of all the resources within themselves, that they will need to meet the 'challenge' ahead; whether it be stopping smoking, losing weight or anything else. Of course it is important that a real want to change already existed within the person. Hypnosis cannot make a person something that they do not want to do in the first place.

The amazing truth, is that we are all actually born with these resources and the answers lie within ourselves. We are all born connected to the 'universal energy', which is the energy within all living beings and the living universe. It can also be called 'The Wise Mind'. We also have parts within us, that we are born with, that are all connected to this universal energy'. These parts are there to look after us, to care for us to love us, to heal us, the empower us and enhance us. Tragically, over time, as a consequence of living in a sick society, these parts can become 'dormant' within people, or start to malfunction and not work to their true capability. People also take on other parasitical parts, that do not serve the persons best interests. The great news is, is that hypnosis awakens all these parts and/or gets them functioning again to their fullest capability, by reconnecting them to that 'universal energy'. Any parasitical parts will also be removed.

When you think about it, is it any wonder that if a persons 'perceived challenge' is high on the 'challenge scale' and they are very low on the 'resourcefulness scale' that people 'fail' to achieve success? As an example, if an over weight person sets out with that attitude that it is 'going to be the hardest thing in the world to lose weight' and they are not resourceful enough to do so, well then there is only one outcome. But once, through hypnosis. you reconnect with that universal energy, anything becomes achievable. You will be on a 10 on that scale of resourcefulness and perceive the attainment of your goal at number 1-2 on that scale of challenges. I guess that's where the old saying 'On top of things' comes from!

That is the beauty about hypnosis - it provides you with the belief in yourself to easily meet and overcome any challenge that you have. Everyone has problems/challenges in living (no one gets off free!), but it is really all about how resourceful we are within yourself and your perception of those problems/challenges. Yes Hypnosis can really SET YOU FREE and put the light and life back in your mind, body, spirit and consciousness and make you happy to be 'alive'.

Thanks for reading this blog post. I plan to start some hypnotic you tube video blogs soon as well, so please watch this space. Until next time, please stay safe, healthy and happy! - Trevor

Raise your 'Vibrational State' today!

"Everything is combination of energetic vibration. As vibration resonates, it makes some tangible objects. A combination of non-resonating vibration can result in destructive energy, and nothing can be created out of it. When some vibration and the other resonate each other, it always creates beautiful design."

- Dr. Masaro Emoto

Hi Everyone,

It has been a couple of months since my last blog post. The reason for this is that I have been really busy multi tasking what with caring for my children; growing fruit and vegetables in an allotment I took on this year; plus last but not least continuing to work with and help clients in my hypno office! At this point I have covered most if not all of the ins and outs of the services I provide in my sessions. So this time around I want to provide some information and perspective about a very important part of feeling good and positive within ourselves. And I will end with a very simple message, to help not only change yourself, but perhaps even the world.

One of the most common questions I get asked is: 'what is hypnosis?' Now I could answer that question in a number of ways, but looking at the bigger picture, hypnosis is, through using guided imagery and visualisations, guiding and facilitating people into a 'higher vibrational state' of mind and body, where people are more resourceful, positive, motivated and have the belief in their own ability to achieve their goals. In a 'high vibrational resourceful state' people literally 'vibrate' at a 'frequency' to make correct choices easily, take action to meet their challenges and live a fuller, a richer and a more expressive life. When being hypnotized your mind and body relaxes and you can leave all the junk and clutter aside that may be lowering your vibrations. In the hypnotic state any negative parasitical parts within you that are holding you back can be removed -  it's literally good riddance to bad rubbish! Then parts within you (which may have been lying dormant) are awakened to help you achieve your full potential.

We live in a society that bombards us day after day with things that lower our vibrations - constant hate and fear from the TV, alcohol, fluoridated water, junk food, arguing, resentment, lieing soulless politicians, the list goes on. People are so busy in the 9-5 materialistic rat race that they seldom have time to take a breathe. So it's easy to become bogged down into these low vibrational states. For example I stopped watching any mainstream news because of this exact reason. Ten years or so ago I used to watch it daily and every time I did I could actually feel the negative energy on my shoulders...war here...terror there... with it's 'be afraid be so very afraid' not so subliminal message. The best thing anyone could do is just turn it off,,,I know it worked wonders for my own personal head space. My vibrations immediately lifted. Freedom! Always remember that everything is energy and just because we cannot see it with our own eyes, does not mean it's not there. We can certainly feel it. Even thought some of us are more sensitive to it than others. I am sure most people know that feeling of walking into a room full of people and feeling the 'energy' or 'vibration' of the room, whether 'good or bad'. Everyone has the capacity to experience  this. Recently I have been meeting regularly with people on the same 'wavelength' as me and my vibrations are lifted for days afterwards. Maybe we can't change the world, but by changing ourselves and our own 'vibrations' then we change the world by proxy. Because the wonderful truth is everything and everyone is connected. Just like one drop in the ocean is part of and will always be connected to the greater whole ocean.

There have been some amazing experiments carried by people like Dr. Masaro Emoto, whose research has visually documented molecular changes in water by exposing it to positive or negative words. When the words "thank you" were taped to a bottle of distilled water, the frozen crystals had a similar shape to the crystals formed by water that had been exposed to Bach's "Goldberg Variations".. When water samples were bombarded with heavy metal music or labeled with negative words, or when negative thoughts and emotions were focused intentionally upon them, such as "Adolf Hitler", the water did not form crystals at all and displayed chaotic, fragmented structures! Consider this and then the fact that the human body is made up of 60% water, while the brain and heart are composed of 73% water. Dr. Ian Lyons has also made a great discovery. His research has shown that there are some Bio-Resonance Frequencies which have a very strong effect on living organisms. Friends of mine have also carried out some similar and simple experiments with cooked rice, as showed in the picture to the left.

So my message for this blog post is very simple. Do something today that raises your vibrations. It does not have to be hypnosis. A simple smile or a hug to a loved one, or hell maybe even a stranger? Get out in nature and take a deep breathe. Stand out in the pouring rain and feel good to be alive. Turn off the T.V. Go for a long walk or run. Listen to music. There are so many ways to do this. We all need it to ground ourselves and step away from the pressure that a sick society can place on us. Even me! After all, it's a wonderful, beautiful, amazing world out there. Step into that higher vibrational frequency right now! I promise you it is there, even if you can only see it with your 'third eye' ;) .

I hope you enjoy my blog posts. Hopefully with some better time management on my part I can post more regular blogs from this point on. My hope is that you find them both interesting and helpful. Until next time, much love and peace to all - Trevor.

The Price Is Right

"Good health is not something we can buy. However, it can be an extremely valuable savings account"      ~ Anne Wilson Schaef

Greetings from a cold but sunny February afternoon in Waterford! Even after all the hail, rain and cold weather, there's a real touch of spring in the air today! This is going to be a short and sweet blog post in which I will be answering and discussing something I can get queried on quite a lot - the 'price' of my hypnotic sessions. I have the odd person ring me complaining about the price and sometimes it can be a factor in people deciding whether to get hypnosis done or not. I am going to use this blog to put my price in context, and how it is essential to ensure two of the most important factors to hypnotic success - 'commitment' and 'expectation'. So read on....

At the moment, the my price stands at 250 euros for Stop Smoking (one session), 300 for my Weight Control Program (three sessions) and 100 per session for other areas I specialize in such as Eliminating Fears, Reducing Stress and Managing Pain. The price is equal to the value of the service that I am providing. Yes, other hypnotists will charge less that is their business; but in my opinion it can devalue the powerful service that is been provided and not be as successful. There is an old saying that if people get nothing for nothing then they won't appreciate it and I certainly think there is a lot of truth to that.

Here's the thing : Hypnosis is a 'Life Changing' and in many cases a 'Life Saving' experience. It is a very quick empowering transformation and will put you in a zone mentally from which you will never look back. 250 euros to stop smoking easily, without any cravings or crutches like nicotine patches or e-cigarettes, is an investment in your health and well-being and will likely add many years onto your life. Many people that come to see me have been told by their doctors that if they don't stop smoking they will be dead within a short time frame. So it really is a matter of life and death. After the last budget the price of cigarettes now stands at 10.50 euros per pack, which works out for a smoker with a 20 a day habit as nearly 4 thousand euros. It kind of makes 250 euros look like a bargain, right? The same applies to Weight Control, Eliminating Fears, Reducing Stress and Managing Pain - >> 'your health is your wealth' as they say and you cannot put a price on that. Believe me the mainstream alternatives such as medications will cost you an awful more long term, including your health.

It is also important that I receive payment up front to get the 'commitment' from the client, which has a big bearing on success. If someone is holding back financially to 'see how it goes' then it shows they are not 100% committed to the process. My business if run very professionally and in order to ensure the best results, it is essential that I create the right 'dynamic' from the get go. If someone comes to see me 'half-hearted' or is 'holding back' in any way, then their success will be limited, in fact they will be wasting my time as well as their own time. Of course I understand that some people really want to do it, but just cannot afford it, and in those cases I always do everything in my power to come up with a suitable arrangement to make it work. The last reason I want for people not to come to see me is financial reasons. But ultimately, 'The price is right'. !

Hypnosis works. My success rate is over 90% (100% if you commit to the process, follow all instructions and expect results). So 'commit to it of course but also 'expect' results! So take responsibility for your own health and make and investment in to your future by booking a session with me NOW at 086-8211677. It's really a small price to pay ... until next time ... take care folks!

Find the REAL you in 2016!

First of all I would like to wish everyone all the very best of luck for 2016! No matter what 2015 was like for you, it is always great to start afresh with a brand new year to look forward to; a year in which you can make permanent changes to your life and make your dreams come true. True, there are many people out there that at this point have 'given up' on new years resolutions, having tried and failed so many times. This is understandable. However in this blog post I will be discussing one of the biggest factors that cause people to slip back into old ways and habits, and I will be providing a key insight into making new year resolutions a reality and ensuring the changes you make are permanent.

To make a permanent change in your life, it is essential is to know the difference between the 'Conscious Mind' and the 'Subconscious mind'. I like to use the metaphor of the 'Monkey Mind' when explaining the 'Conscious Mind'. The Monkey Mind is the part of the mind we use to 'analyze' things and be 'rational'. Unfortunately it is also the part of the mind that can hold us back, procrastinate, be overcritical, and cause us anxiety and stress by over worrying, pontificating, ruminating and over analyzing situations. It can create mountains out of molehills, keep us awake at night and make up problems that do not exist. Sadly too often in the hustle bustle of today's world, people listen to their monkey minds and end up in a state of chronic stress. This of course can lead to many health problems as I have discussed in previous blogs (check out the 5 part series I done on 'Stress').

On the other hand, our Subconscious (some call it the Superconscious) Minds are us. The Subconscious Mind is our 'TRUE' and 'HIGHER' selves. The 'REAL' us we were meant to be, before a sick society brainwashed us with all the worries, anxieties and stresses (the bills, mortgages, job worries, etc.) of the materialist modern world. Our TRUE and HIGHER selves IS the source of all our learnings, behaviours, imaginations, memories and all of the wonderful internal parts that are here to look after us, nurture us and love us. It is the source of our creativity, intuition and resources. Sadly, we rarely listen to what our true and higher selves is trying to tell us. Most people are too busy rushing around being stressed and anxious. The Buddhists knew a long time ago how to 'quieten' their minds (by meditation and other strategies) to tap into this infinite resource. Yes, the truth about us human beings is magnificent and the average person would be blown away by what they are REALLY capable of, once they learn and know how to make us into these wonderful internal resources.

Hypnosis is a wonderful way of utilising these internal resources and empowering the real you within. It is my opinion that older, traditional counseling and talk therapies focus on the 'Monkey Mind'. The Monkey Mind will rarely, if ever, come up with a solution to a problem, in fact on the contrary, it will most likely come up with barriers to finding a solution. The TV series 'The Sopranos' comes to mind, where the main mafia man Tony makes all these visits to his talk therapist, and then he just feeds his Monkey Mind by talking about his problems, but has no intention of making any real change in his life. The Monkey Mind loves to talk out of the mouth, which is why, when using hypnosis to communicate with the Subsconcious Mind I set up finger (also called 'ideomotor') signals.

Make 2016 the year to finally put the 'Monkey Mind' in a cage and start start letting the real you out that has actually always been there, just lying dormant, waiting to burst out.  Remember/be who you really are! No matter what your goal is in 2016, whether to stop smoking. lose weight, eliminate a fear or reduce stress, hypnosis is a must. It will provide the environment and facilitate the finding of your true higher self. What are you waiting for? Call now on 0868211677! I hope you enjoyed this blog post and found it informational. Until next time stay safe everyone!

"Socrates did not believe that any man could be taught, inasmuch as all men contain within themselves a  -divine wisdom which cannot be increased. Education therefore, as the word itself originally inferred, is a process by which wisdom is drawn out of man. Every man's true teacher is his own higher self" ~ Manly P. Hall

Dedication: I would to dedicate this blog post to a dear friend and colleague Mr.Tom Ryan, who is the inspiration for much of the above. Thanks Tom, your guidance and support is so appreciated!

Change the 'Program', Change Your Life!

Welcome to my latest hypnotic blog. It's been a couple of months and I am delighted to say that since that time I have been helping many people transform their lives. With hypnosis we are dealing with a very powerful transformational process, in which change can really happen in an 'instant'. To understand this more, the following analogy will be helpful.

Just like a computer has 'programs' running within it, so to does the human mind. Human beings are like advanced biological computers and we have these programs that are running automatically at a subconscious level. Examples would be our behaviours and habits. From the time we are born we are learning things at a subconscious level, from reading, writing, walking and talking. We are developing our behaviours and habits, some good and some bad. As we grow we automatically drop some behaviours or habits and change them for more appropriate ones. But sometimes what can happen is that we can get stuck (similar to a 'computer virus') and the program can malfunction or for some reason some part of us holds onto out dated programs that now no longer serve us. In fact the truth is that when most people come to see me, I am 'deprogramming' them of things that are making them unhappy, miserable and even sick (this is because the mind and body is connected, as i have discussed in previous blog posts).

With my powerful hypnosis program, I can help remove the glitch in your internal program or even better, I can remove the program (or virus) altogether! These unwanted programs can include a stress program, a worry program, a fear program, a smoking program or even an over eating program. Some of these programs might even be keeping you awake at night. You do not need these programs, or have to have them. It is actually near impossible to remove these programs 'consciously' , that is why for example 'will power' has only a 5% success rate when it comes to stop smoking, in comparison to hypnosis, which has a 90% plus success rate. The reason is that one is communicating directly with the subconscious mind, which is the source of the 'program' or 'virus'. That is why sometimes you might find that 'the harder you consciously try to do something the harder it gets'. The key is to remove and or fix the program at the subconscious level!

I use hypnosis, along with NLP and parts work to help you kick these programs into space and then help install new programs, for example, a confidence program, a happiness program, a motivation program, a positive thinking program, a healthy eating program or a stop smoking program...the list goes on. The hypnotic transformation that I facilitate will fix the computer for you and then show you what to do to keep it serving you. It is my opinion that our number one responsibility in this life is to fulfill our fundamental human need to feel good mentally, physically and emotionally. And just as you need to dump files on your computer (junk that is not needed and is slowing the computer down!), or when you need to remove old or corrupted programs, the same happens with us. The system (and hard drive and memory!) needs a regular clean up...so it can now run soother, faster and more productively. Hypnosis can help achieve you this, safely and effectively in an 'instant'!

It is my hope that you enjoyed this blog post and you have found it informational and helpful. Tune in next time for another hypnotic experience!

Hypnosis helps Fibromyalgia

"Your Expectations can have profound impacts on your brain and your health"
                                            - Tor Wager, neuroscientist, Colombia University.

Hypnosis can really help take the suffering out of peoples chronic pain. It is important to understand the difference between the 'painful signals' and actual suffering', and how the brain processes the signals, using emotions, beliefs and expectations - only then does it becomes an 'experience of pain'. In this weeks blog post I am going to discuss how this principle can be applied to taking the suffering out of the condition known as Fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a medical condition characterized by chronic widespread pain, fatigue and sleep difficulties. It is classed as a disorder of pain processing due to abnormalities in how pain signals are processed in the central nervous system. Fibromyalgia is estimated to affect 2% of the population. The term "fibromyalgia" derives from the Latin, fibro-, meaning "fibrous tissues", Greek myo-, "muscle", and Greek algos, "pain"; thus the term literally means "muscle and connective tissue pain".1 There are several theories as to what causes it but most experts agree that it results not from a single event but from a combination of many physical and emotional stressors.

There is much scientific evidence that the complementary therapy of hypnosis can help reduce and even eliminate much of the suffering associated with Fibromyalgia. A recent study carried out at the University of Iowa studied what happens to the brain during hypnosis.2 Researchers monitored chronic sufferers of Fibromyalgia in a hypnotic trance. It showed that there was reduced activity in the pain network area of the brain particularly in the area of the brain responsible for ‘feeling’ pain.

Hypnosis can help with Fibromyalgia in many ways:
(1) Fibromyalgia is often triggered by stress or anxiety. In fact, Fibromyalgia is often associated with it. Stress is also an important precipitating factor in the development of Fibromyalgia.  Simply put, stress amplifies the perception of pain. Therefore as we lessen stress we reduce pain perception. Hypnosis can help people relax so that they can experience comfort rather than pain. The visualisation techniques used in my hypnotic sessions can help to decrease symptoms of stress and anxiety, as the saying goes 'The body achieves what the mind believes".

(2) As noted, Fibromyalgia is classed as a disorder of pain processing due to abnormalities in how pain signals are processed in the central nervous system. Hypnosis relaxes the nervous system, so it’s not as reactive to the pain, as well as redirecting attention away from the sensation of pain. Hypnosis helps focus attention on various parts of the body, to calm the autonomous nervous system , which is involved in stress, and the limbic system of the brain. A great hypnotic technique that helps do this is called 'autogenic training'.. This process involves targeting your focus, imagining how you feel and repeating that thought three times. For example turn your attention to your hands right now and think to yourself: 'My hands and warm and heavy', and repeat and soon notice, as you say that to yourself that you do really begin to feel your hands become 'warm and heavy'. The learning here is that we can make a choice on where to focus our attention on and that we can control the way we feel. Autogenic training develops awareness of calm and comfortable feelings, creating a positive reflex and reduced suffering. An elderly Cherokee Indian was once teaching his grandchildren about health and healing. He said to them: "A fight is going on inside everyone that has a health challenge. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf promotes pain and disease and the other promotes healing and well being". The grandchildren thought about this for a minutes and then one child asked his grandfather: "Which wolf will win?" , to which the old wise Indian replied "They one they feed".3

(3) I teach people hypnotic techniques to control their pain, showing them how to turn discomfort into comfort. Self-hypnosis allows using the imagination to expel the pain and breathe in fresh, revitalizing, energizing air and can help people program themselves in many healthy and beneficial ways. I also teach some relaxation techniques which can be used to focus in on and control breathing and I teach mindfulness which helps people 'just let a thought be a thought or a feeling be a feeling' without attaching meaning to it, just being able to live in the moment and go with the flow.

(4) Sleep deprivation/insomnia is another common result of Fibromyalgia. This can leave the person feeling continuously exhausted. Hypnosis can be used to improve sleep patterns so that the body has the time it requires rest and heal. The hypnotic state is a feeling between awakening and sleeping (e.g. daydreaming) in which the outside world seems to fade away, as the mind and body relaxes and focuses in the point of attention (to the hypnotists voice, to their own breathing, to the relaxation of their body, etc.). Once I facilitate this state for a person, it is something that I then teach them to do themselves, so they can obtain the sleep state easily once they leave my office.

Summary
Hypnosis is not a cure all for Fibromyalgia. However it can help reduce the painful symptoms, by empowering the person to control of their thoughts and emotions. There are tremendous benefits to using some of the hypnotic methods outlined here such as autogenic training and self-hypnosis. All proven ways to take the suffering out of pain.

Helping People with Hypnosis - with Hypnotherpaist Nicky Edwards

Earlier this week I spoke to my friend and fellow hypnotherapist Nicky Edwards about hypnosis and she had some very interesting things to say. Nicky is based in West Sussex in the UK.

Hello Nicky, thanks for taking the time out to put hypnosis in the spotlight, first question, what do you like most about doing hypnotherapy?
Hi Trevor, my favourite thing about hypnotherapy (can I really only have one?) it would have to be the opportunity I have to change people’s lives for the better. I really cannot put into words the pleasure and satisfaction I feel when my clients are able to put habits, behaviours or stressful situations behind them and start living their lives to their full potential. Empowering the ladies and gentlemen that I work with to take control and achieve goals they never thought possible is an amazingly satisfying experience and has me smiling 24/7.

How would you explain/describe hypnosis if asked by someone who knew nothing about it?

I always look at hypnosis as a tool that allows my clients to take control of their own minds. I simply facilitate the process, if they want to change then I am able to support the process but it is very much their mind control in action. Hypnosis in itself is a deep state of relaxation, but I think many people see the television programmes featuring stage hypnosis and think that I have the ability to mind control. I will add here that I do NOT. Hypnotherapy has been around for hundreds of years and is completely natural state of mind, it’s much like when you drift into a light nap in front of the TV but are still consciously aware that there is noise and movement – it’s just too much effort to open your eyes.

What hypnotic areas do you specialize in? And can you give examples of your personal experience of how hypnosis has helped changed people’s lives?
I specialise in weight loss hypnotherapy though the use of virtual gastric bands. This is a highly effective treatment where I combine hypnotherapy and NLP to allow my clients to take back control of their eating behaviours, break food cravings and regulate meal frequency and portion control. One of my lovely ladies lost 4 stone in 24 weeks and has now embraced a life of fitness and health and one of my gentlemen has lost an incredible 8 stone since Christmas. Last weekend I was very lucky to watch one of my ladies who lost 2 stone in her beautiful size 10 wedding dress (she has dropped three dress sizes in 4 months).

What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is experiencing stress, worry and/or anxiety at the moment?

Experiencing anxiety or stress is often very much underrated and many people do not recognise the huge impact that this has on people’s lives. My greatest piece of advice is to take time to learn and recognise triggers to their stress and anxiety to begin looking at new ways to manage these. Hypnotherapy is also an incredible tool for relaxation and stress management; I have many clients from a range of professions who use it as a tool to change their mindsets about their stress.

What is your opinion of e-cigarettes as opposed to stop smoking using hypnosis?
A really interesting question as it has been in the media in the UK today. Personally I think that every individual has different needs and whilst for some people e-cigarettes are a great way to manage smoking cessation for others hypnotherapy offers a beneficial approach, there is no one size fits all answer and which is best will depend on the individual. However there is great success in smoking cessation hypnotherapy so it should be considered along with the options when choosing to quit.

I see you have had some remarkable results with your weight loss program. How do you do it? What's the secret?
What’s my secret? I would say that it’s down to having amazing clients who are committed to change but they would say I was magic (running joke). I was very fortunate to train with Cressinghams College utilising highly effective and responsive techniques which has greatly benefited my treatments. I also lost 6 stone myself a few years ago, which spiralled my journey into becoming a hypnotherapist as I quickly identified that the barrier to weight loss is mindset and a reliance on diets which never work. I think a combined passion, training and clients attitude has greatly benefited my success. At the moment my success rate falls around 92-93% success for weight loss using hypnotherapy (that’s much higher than a weight loss group).

Do you think that hypnotherapy is becoming more accepted by the mainstream?
I think that society is becoming more and more aware of the benefits of hypnotherapy and that over time this will continue to grow. There is a lot of media attention being given to weight loss hypnotherapy and hypnobirthing in the news at the moment which is a great benefit to the industry. I also feel that people are becoming more interested in alternative therapies rather than using medication where possible.

I know I get asked a lot about stage shows, for a lot of the general public this is where and how they form their perception of hypnosis which can lead to some fears regarding it. What’s your opinion of stage hypnosis?
I think stage hypnosis can be an entertaining experience for people sat watching the TV but personally I feel that it gives the wrong impression of hypnotherapy. Stage hypnosis is in no way, shape or form like hypnotherapy. Stage hypnosis gives the impression that we are able to ‘mind control’ people and do things against their will. In reality this is not possible and my clients are always surprised by how in control they are and aware of what is happening. However I would say that it is really important to choose a hypnotherapist who is qualified, registered and insured to ensure that you get the best service and treatment.

Do you use hypnotic techniques in your own life and if so how did you make them work for you?
I use some self-hypnosis and when I am very busy I utilise sleep apps. However I generally find that I am so relaxed after a day in the office I don’t feel a great need. Like all hypnosis the best results come from personalised sessions so I would recommend having personalised hypnotherapy audios to get greater results.

If I never had hypnosis done before, what are the most important requirements regarding my attitude before I come to see you?
I think being open minded is the most important aspect and also a willingness to be honest about the problem you are experiencing and want to resolve. It is incredibly important to me as a therapist that my clients are ready to change. Sometimes we have to break down their problem or barrier into little pieces so they can let go of it in small manageable pieces, others just want to change overnight. It is a very personal treatment and therefore the more information you share with your hypnotherapist the more effective your treatment can be. I find that many of my new clients are still a little skeptical, and I think this is completely natural. However as long as you believe that it can work for you and build a good trusting relationship with your hypnotherapist you could greatly benefit from this amazing therapy.

I know you do NLP as well, what is that exactly (for people who don't know) and how does it fit with your hypnotherapy?
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and I tend to look at is as hypnosis for the conscious mind. It is a fantastic way of changing thought patterns about specific things e.g. food cravings and combined with hypnosis allows extremely fast and effective results when used correctly. For example I have had clients quit eating chocolate in as little as 90 minutes! The results are astounding. NLP works on the principles of word combinations and techniques so if you love linguistics you’ll love learning about it. I used to use it when I was teaching to encourage students to learn – so you can use it when awake or under hypnosis.

What do you see the future holding for you and the practice of hypnosis?
For me the future holds the development of hypnobirthing classes for my antenatal mums to be which is an incredibly exciting stage for my practice. I am also now offering specialised treatments for eating disorders which are a very personal goal as there is very little support and treatment options available. I find that my practice develops on the demands of clients and my personal passions. For hypnotherapy I think we will see a continued growth in the industry and more and more people seek ways to manage their mindsets and create positive changes.
